CHRISTINE ALBERT (Austin, Tx.) - 1996 Kerrville Music Awards Outstanding Female Vocalist moved from upstate New York to Santa Fe as a teenager and throughout the '70's she was a mainstay of the Santa Fe pop scene working as a member of half a dozen bands. One of these bands was Eliza Gilkyson's Turquoise Trail band which appeared in a concert for producer Rod Kennedy in 1981 at Kerrville Municipal Auditorium. Christine was Eliza's backup singer. By 1982 she had moved to Austin, and since 1985 has appeared eight times at the Kerrville Folk Festival as a solo artist and has been featured regularly on Kerrville tours and other special events. In 1996 she appeared with the 25th Anniversary Festival Orchestra conducted by David Amrain. She co-hosted the Kerrville Music Awards with Jimmy LaFave in 1994 and in 1996 shared the Duo of the Year Award with him. Co-founder of the Austin Songwriters Group (1987), she earned wide recognition on the Bluebell Ice Cream commercials in 1988, and again on television in the Texas DPS anti-litter campaign of 1990. She was featured on the Nashville Network's "The Texas Connection" in 1990 and on "Austin City Limits" in 1994. CD's include "You Are Gold" (1990), TexaFrance (1992). The High Road (1993) and "Under The Lone Star Sky" (1996). Following her European tour of Holland, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria and Germany, she returned home to host "An Evening at the Paramount with Christine Albert & Friends" including Marcia Ball, Betty Elders, Sara Hickman, Toni Price, Kelly Willis and others, Christine returns to the Kerrville stage at the 1997 Kerrville Wine & Music Festival next Fall.
